About Tramadol

What is Tramadol?

Tramadol is a narcotic-like pain reliever.
Tramadol is used to treat moderate to severe pain. Tramadol extended-release is used to treat moderate to severe chronic pain when treatment is needed around the clock.
Tramadol may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

SIDE EFFECTS: Tramadol is generally well tolerated, and side effects are usually transient. Commonly reported side effects include nausea, constipation, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, and vomiting. Less commonly reported side effects include itching, sweating, dry mouth, diarrhea, rash, visual disturbances, and vertigo. Some patients who received Tramadol have reported seizures. Abrupt withdrawal of Tramadol may result in anxiety, sweating, insomnia, rigors, pain, nausea, diarrhea, tremors, and hallucinations.

What is the most important information I should know about Tramadol?

You should not take tramadol if you are allergic to it, if you have ever been addicted to drugs or alcohol, or if you have ever attempted suicide. Do not take tramadol while you are intoxicated (drunk) or taking any of the following: alcohol or street drugs, narcotic pain medicine, sedatives or tranquilizers, or medicine for depression, anxiety, or mental illness.

Seizures (convulsions) have occurred in some people taking tramadol. Tramadol may be more likely to cause a seizure if you have a history of seizures or head injury, a metabolic disorder, or if you are taking certain medicines such as antidepressants, muscle relaxers, narcotic, or medicine for nausea and vomiting.
Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. A tramadol overdose can be fatal.

Tramadol may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it.

Many individuals are affected by acute or chronic pain. Consistent with a survey performed by World Health Organization (WHO) more than 20,000 patients evaluated across five continents, over 20% had suffered from constant pain. Although thousands of Scientifics have made efforts to get the adequate recognition of pain treatments, pain management goes on being a worldwide health fact. There are many issues that lead to inadequate treatments and therapies to alleviate pain. Many of them are related with analgesic side effects or fear of addiction. For this, doctors give priority to the disease management and pain is underreported by patients.

The famous painkiller Tramadol is a drug substance contained in a wide range of pharmaceutical products manufactured all over the world (in over 100 countries today). This active principle is used in the control of moderate to severe pain. Tramadol is now not internationally controlled under either 1961 or 1971 Conventions. Despite that, GrĂ¼nenthal GmbH provides a spontaneous reporting data base that is used by international administrations to follow Tramadol performance.

The products, which are prepared with Tramadol, are prescription products. That means patients will need a doctors prescription to buy it.

When your healthcare provider prescribes a new medicine, patients should ask them to pronounce the name of the active ingredient clearly. Patients should also write down the strength and the directions for using. Finally, they will be able to compare doctors’ prescriptions to theirs.
